About Us

The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) was established in 1984 as a group of COREN registered Electrical Engineers. Today, NIEEE houses all the specialties of Electrical Engineering disciplines and currently has chapters in 28 cities across all the geo-political zones of the country. In order to deliver our mandates effectively, NIEEE is constitutionally structured into three subdivisions of Electrical Engineering – Power Engineering, Telecoms & Computer Engineering, and Instrumentation, Control and Automation sections.

Vision

To be the leading and most credible professional institution of first choice

Mission

To promote professional competence and excellence among members through innovative contribution and development of sustainable solutions to challenging engineering problems by deploying efficient technologies and systems for the benefit of mankind.

Aims and Objectives

1. To create a platform for continuing career and professional development and technical services

2. To advance the cause of Electrical and Electronic Engineering personnel and firms through education. Research, collaboration and development of codes and standards.

3. To encourage innovation and development of sustainable solutions by harnessing the various specialized fields of Power, Telecommunications, Computer, Information Technology, Instrumentation, Control and Automation Engineering and allied fields

4. To provide Technical For a for discussion, mentorship, development and dissemination of knowledge to members and the public

5. To promote the welfare and protect the interest of practitioners of Electtrical and Electronic Engineering in the public and private sectors of the economy through advocacy, career progression, recognition and all other means.

6. To engage and advise government, industry and commercial establishments connected with Electrical and Electronics Engineering on relevant subjects on matters concerning professional practice.

History of NIEEE

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) was formally established in 1958 as an umbrella organization for the professional development of all engineering disciplines such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, etc. This society was inaugurated on Sunday, 16th of February, 1958 in London, United Kingdom, and Mr. G.O. Aiwerioba was elected the President. The formal inauguration of the NSE in Nigeria took place in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Monday, 19th of January, 1959.

The objectives of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) as spelt out on her website are ‘to promote the advancement of engineering education, research and practice in all its ramifications with a view to maintaining and enhancing the professional capabilities of its members so as to better equip them to fulfill the needs of the profession for the good of the public and the nation at large’.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers presently comprises of various Divisions (Institutions) and several Branches spread across the length and breadth of the country.

In 1986, some notable Electrical and Electronics Engineers led by Engr. Dr. Olusegun Ajayi,FNSE, championed and pioneered the formation of the first professional Division: The Electrical Division. Dr. Ajayi, now a Past President of the NSE, was subsequently elected as the first National Chairman of the Division.

On Thursday, 12th of October, 2006, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the then Electrical Division unanimously voted to change the name of the Division to ‘The Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE)’. The name was approved by the Council of the Nigerian Society of Engineers in January 2007, making the NIEEE again the first Institution to be so recognized by the NSE (to be continued…)

Proud to be an Electrical and Electronics Engineer

FELLOWSHIP OF NIEEE

2022-04-09

The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers(NIEEE) has the highest esteem for recognition and celebration of the best verifiable practices of its membership using various channels. The highest award in this category is known as Distinguished Electrical and Electronic Engineering Award Laureate (D.E.E.E.A.L). This Award was established after the first award called Most Promising Electrical and Electronic Engineering Award Laurete(MPEEEAL) was conducted once and won by now Prof. Tita Warra, during the Chairmanship tenure of the late Engr Foluseke Abidemi Somolu FNIEEE (1987-1988). In 2000, DEEEAL was established to replace MPEEEAL  and reward excellence at the peak of the engineering careers of members   The DEEEAL is wired to be self-funding and  handled by a Special Committee of National Executive Committee who must shop for the most deserving AWARDEE after several independent nominations, scrutiny and assessment. The event holds annually but the award may not happen if there is not sufficient justification from applications and nominations received. From inception, awards have spread  across all spheres of Electrical and Electronic Engineering practice and the number of AWARDEES to date is listed below;   DIRECTORY OF NIEEE'S HALL OF FELLOWS S/N NAMES  YEAR 1 Engr.
